How to Get an Image URL on Any Device

Here is how to get an image URL for a photo on your phone or computer, a screenshot, or a picture that is already online. With the free uploader it takes about ten seconds.

On iPhone or Android

  1. Open the uploader

Open PicLink in Safari, Chrome or any mobile browser.

  2. Pick the photo

Tap Choose images and select a photo from your gallery or take a new one. iPhone HEIC photos are converted automatically when your browser can open them.

  3. Copy the link

When the upload finishes, tap Copy link. The direct image URL is now on your clipboard, ready to paste.

Getting the address of an image on a website

In Chrome on Android, press and hold the image and choose Copy image address. On iPhone, press and hold the image and choose Save to Photos, then upload it to get a link that you control.

On a Windows PC or Mac

  1. Open the uploader

Open PicLink in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

  2. Add the image

Drag the file onto the upload box, or click Choose images. You can add up to 30 images at once.

  3. Copy the direct link

Press Copy link. Uploading several images also gives you one album link.

Copying the address of an image you see online

Right-click the image and choose Copy image address (Chrome, Edge) or Copy Image Link (Firefox, Safari). That is the existing URL on the original site, so it stops working if that site removes or moves the file.

From a screenshot

  1. Take the screenshot

On Windows press Win+Shift+S. On a Mac press Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4 to copy a screenshot to the clipboard.

  2. Paste it into the uploader

Open PicLink and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). The screenshot uploads straight away, no file needed.

  3. Copy the link

Press Copy link, or copy the Markdown version for GitHub and documentation.

From an image that is already online

Paste the image address into the “…or paste an image URL to import” field and press Import. The tool downloads a copy and gives you a new link with its own delete link, so it keeps working even if the original changes. This works for public images up to 10 MB; some sites block downloads.

How to get an image URL working in HTML, Markdown, forums and email

HTML

Use <img src="URL" alt="description"> on a website or in a blog post.

Markdown

Use ![description](URL) in GitHub READMEs, Notion, Reddit and documentation.

Forums

Use the BBCode [img]URL[/img] so the picture shows inside your post.

Email

In Gmail choose Insert photo, then Web address (URL), and paste the link. In other mail apps, paste the link as text.

The uploader gives you all of these codes ready to copy, so you do not have to type them yourself.

Troubleshooting

The link opens a page, not the image

Use the direct link (it ends in .jpg, .png, .gif, .webp or .avif), not the share page link.

The image does not show on a forum or site

Check that you used the right code (BBCode for forums, HTML for websites) and that the link opens in a private browser window.

My HEIC photo is rejected

Your browser cannot open HEIC. On iPhone set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible, or send the photo to yourself as JPG first.

The link stopped working

It may have reached the expiry you picked, been deleted with its delete link, gone unopened for 365 days, or been removed for breaking the rules.
